Earth Days 2021
Juried "Mail Art" Exhibition, Sale, & Competition

Viewing Monday, April 12 through Wednesday, May 5, 2021

MAIL ART (also known as postal art and correspondence art) is a populist artistic movement centered on sending small-scale works through the postal service. It began as a way for artists to circumnavigate the museum and gallery systems and have their artwork more widely distributed and publicly viewed.

In that spirit, THERE IS NO PLANET B, is a university-wide CALL FOR MAIL ART that addresses climate concerns. For more information about the Earth Days theme “There is No Planet B,” please see the main webpage.

Send your 4” X 6” postcards (drawings, collages, paintings, prints, photos, etc.) to Ken Reker, P.O. Box #134, Swampscott, MA, 01907, before Friday, April 1st. Please include your email on each submission, as a contact for potential buyers. The art will be assembled in an online exhibition at the Salem State Winfisky Gallery and posted for sale ($5.00 each with proceeds going to the artist). Each participant is responsible for the delivery and collection of any sales, at the end of the exhibition.

Cash prizes will be awarded to outstanding student art works. This is the only judged art competition at Salem State. Everyone is welcome to participate but only students are eligible for the awards.

For more information, contact Professor Ken Reker at kreker@salemstate.edu.
