Printing in the DGL

Here in the DGL we are very serious about doing our part to contribute to a greener earth. That means as a user of the DGL you are expected to be just as serious as we are. It is your responsibility to be aware of and adhere to all the following when using our printers.

Be aware of what you are printing. Always use Print Preview whenever possible. How big is the print job? How many pages is it? What type of file is it? Sometimes there are extra pages that you do not need to print. In some cases you can also provide specific page numbers if you do not need the whole file. Most waste is created because when you hit that print button, you have no idea what is coming out the other end.

Single-sided or duplex? The Lab's printers are set to print duplex by default. We know that there may be times when you need to print single-sided jobs, so be sure you change your print job to single sided or you will end up with that much more waste. To do this go to Print>Properties> Click the Printing Shortcuts tab, on the right hand side, under the Print on both sides, choose None.

Use the Print Manager. You can find this in the task bar down on the lower right hand side of your printer. Sometimes there are lots of jobs ahead of your job and people tend to hit the print button again thinking there job is not coming out. If you look at the Print Manager you can see exactly where in the queue your job is. You can also use this to delete your job if you decide you don't need it or can't wait for it. Be careful though! Make sure you are deleting YOUR job and not someone else's.

Do not use our printers as copy machines! It is wasteful, and causes unnecessary wear and tear. If you need more than two copies of something, or more than one copy of a large job, use a copy machine.

Do not touch! If you do not work in the DGL, you are not authorized to touch the printers. See a DGL staff person if the orange attention light is blinking or if the printer is out of paper or ink.

Remember! We are here to help! Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any problems or questions.
